Rugs by Room
The right rug for a bedroom is rarely the right rug for a dining room — room and function should drive the choice as much as style.
Shopping for rugs by room is how designers actually work, because the demands of each space are genuinely different. A dining room needs a rug sized and constructed to take chairs sliding across it; a bedroom wants softness underfoot for bare morning feet; a hallway needs something that shrugs off constant traffic. This category is part of our broader rugs collection.
The two variables that shift room to room are size and durability. In a living room, the rug should be large enough that the front legs of every seating piece rest on it, unifying the arrangement. In a dining room, it needs to extend far enough that chairs stay on the rug even when pulled out — usually 24 inches beyond the table on all sides. Bedrooms can go softer and more delicate since traffic is low, while entryways and hallways demand the toughest, most forgiving fibers. Getting the room-appropriate size right is the single most common luxury mistake people avoid once they shop this way. Guides for specific rooms are on the way; in the meantime, our main rugs collection covers sizing and material in depth.
